PURPOSE

Decision supported.

Computes first-pass circular orbit velocity, period, escape speed and Hohmann transfer estimates.

Intended user

research, assurance and technical review teams

Output status

USE CASES

Where this instrument fits.

  • Create preliminary orbit calculations
  • Compare low orbit and transfer scale
  • Explain velocity and period orders of magnitude
  • Prepare mission-concept notes
INPUTS

Required input fields.

  • Central body (required): Earth, Moon, Mars, Sun
  • Starting circular altitude km (required)
  • Target circular altitude km (required)

Data handling: this interface uses the L2ET protected same-origin instrument engine. Do not enter confidential, regulated, privileged, incident, medical or sensitive operational data.

METHOD

Formula Workbench logic.

Uses standard gravitational parameter and radius for selected body to estimate circular velocity, period, escape speed and Hohmann delta-v.

Source families

orbital mechanicstwo-body approximation

Assumptions

  • Two-body approximations only.
  • No perturbations, inclination or launch constraints.
  • Inputs are simplified.
INTERACTIVE INSTRUMENT

Orbital mechanics calculation note.

Use the controls below to generate a preliminary artifact. The output is intentionally bounded and requires human review.

OUTPUT ARTIFACT

Orbital mechanics calculation note.

The generated artifact includes findings, assumptions, limitations, recommended next actions and exportable structured output.

EXAMPLE

Example input and output.

Example input

Earth orbit at 400 km transferring to GEO altitude.

Example output

Outputs circular velocity, orbital period, escape speed and transfer delta-v estimate.

LIMITATIONS

What this tool does not do.

  • Not mission design.
  • Not navigation-quality analysis.
  • Does not replace orbital simulation.

This instrument does not provide legal, medical, cryptographic, engineering, regulatory or compliance certification.
